tesa Plant Sparta celebrates 40th anniversary

tesa Plant Sparta is proud to celebrate 40 years in business as a successful adhesive tape manufacturer. tesa Plant Sparta, a subsidiary of Beiersdorf, a multinational skincare company based in Germany, was first built in 1982 at 324 S. Union Street. It was originally constructed at 27,000 square feet. After the completion of its eighth expansion in 2023, it will be about 173,000 square feet – a sixfold increase from its original size.

When the plant opened in 1982, it employed 15 people and produced 2 different products, strapping tape and carton-sealing tape. Today, the plant employs 100 people and produces about 47 different products that primarily serve the automotive, appliance, and flexographic printing markets. From these 47 source materials, over 1,100 different product variations are created.

“It’s wonderful to see how much the plant has grown over it’s history,” said Daniel Germain, President and Regional Manager for tesa tape North America. “And our most exciting growth is yet to come with the completion of our latest expansion next year. It’s a true testament to the hard work of each and every plant employee over the past 40 years that we are going strong today – and will continue to do so for the next 40 years and beyond.”

The plant expansion is an exciting development for the manufacturing facility. It’s the second multimillion-dollar expansion for the plant since 2017, demonstrating tesa’s long-term commitment to making products as close to its customers as is possible. The 28,000 square foot addition to the manufacturing space is complete, with machines currently being installed and functional tests starting in October.

The next step of the expansion – the 10,000 square foot product development space -- broke ground in August. It will include a Customer Solution Center and will be completed in 2023.
