Comparing the next
generation of more
sustainable adhesive tape
tesa® 4965 Original vs tesa® 4965 Original Next Gen
The new tesa® 4965 Original Next Gen tape is one of the latest developments in our company-wide focus on sustainability. Produced with 40%1 less CO2, the next generation of tesa® 4965 Original highlights our commitment to lowering the carbon footprint of our products. The CO2 reduction is achieved by utilizing an externally certified biomass balance approach as well as 90% post-consumer recycled (PCR) PET in the backing in the new version.
Our new solution, the tesa® 4965 Original Next Gen, contains ISCC-PLUS certified biomass-balanced monomers contributing to the replacement of virgin fossil resources by renewable feedstocks’, as well as a new backing made with 90% PCR PET content. With these changes, tesa® 4965 Original Next Gen represents a leap forward to an innovative, more sustainable product design.
These changes do not affect the quality of the new tape. The new tesa® 4965 Original Next Gen tape performs to the same high standards as our previous tape version – the top tool for a wide range of applications for the last 40 years – and meets the same product specification.
The same great performance, with a new focus on sustainability.
But don’t just take our word for it – see how tesa® 4965 Original Next Gen tape performs under stringent testing conditions.
The next tape generation, tesa® 4965 Original Next Gen, equipped with a 90% PCR PET backing performs within measured parameters as the tape with the original PET backing. Extensive testing found exact tensile strength in the 90% PCR PET-backed tape to that of the original PET backing, as well as an equal percentage of elongation.
With regards to the peel adhesion, the new tape matches the original tape version. In addition, both tape versions achieve more than 5,000 minutes in static shear testing at room temperature. The maintained performance level is to be expected, as the selected biomass balance approach does not lead to a change of raw material quality and thus no change to the reliable adhesive performance.
