Innovative technologies that help us pave the way for more sustainable products.

tesa® Waterborne Technology

Waterborne technology is a solvent-free coating technology used in all tesa plants worldwide to produce tapes.

Waterborne technology has emerged as an alternative solution in the adhesive industry, and waterborne acrylic adhesives have gained popularity due to their more sustainable features compared to solvent-based adhesive systems.

Using water as a carrier, waterborne acrylic adhesives can provide low levels of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC). Waterborne acrylic adhesives are easy and safe to handle.

What makes waterborne acrylic adhesives more sustainable?

  • Acrylic dispersions can be coated and dried in an energy efficient way due to their high solids content (amount of polymer contained in water phase) requiring less energy.

  • Waterborne acrylic adhesives are produced by emulsion polymerization characterized by a high level of safety and efficiency, which result from a rapid reaction process in large reactors with no flammable liquids involved.

  • Emulsion polymers have particularly low VOC and odor levels and meet the highest requirements regarding low emissions.

Certification matters

As responsible sourcing is an important pillar of our strategy, it is ideal to have a certification that proves the authenticity of our product claims.
